... 2009 Fleadh Cheoil in Detroit

We heard you. To the great
relief of those of you who have mothers, the 2009 Midwest Fleadh
Cheoil will NOT be on the Mother's Day weekend!
The venue is the same as last year, Doubletree
Dearborn Hotel, which seemed
to be a very good fit for our event. We
look forward to seeing a fine turnout again.
2009 Registration
(Sun, Mar 1, 2009) The Online registration is almost ready
to go. It will be available by no later than Friday. You can use
the same ID and password as last year. A downloadable sylilibus
will also be available probably Wednesdat this week.

This
weekend was a great success by all measures, with record
numbers of competitors and bands competing. The
hotel size and layout seemed well suited to the competitions and
we had a great Friday night concert with Bohola, and a special appearance
by Pat's People.
Detroit
IMA last played host to Midwest Fleadh in 1999-2002. With
overwhelming support in the local Irish community, a small army
of volunteers enabled the event to run smoothly. Thanks to the
judges, Fleadh Committee and of course the competitors.
All events ran on time for the most part and despite
a large number of bands on Saturday night the competitions
finished by 12:15. allowing for a long night and morning of sessions.
The Senior Ceilí Band competition was again won by the Broken
Pledge,
with St. Louis Irish Arts 2nd. For the first time
ever, Detroit fielded two bands, The "D Town C Band" and
the "Great
Lakes Ceilí Band", which tied for 3rd. What a
great night!
2008 Band Photos
The group/band photos from last year's Fleadh are online
in a photosharing area (Flickr) where you can download the photos in high resolution,
free of charge. Flickr has a on online photo service if you want color prints
or CDs of all the photos. Give us a few days to get that together.
Password Help
If
you sent in a registration by snail mail (paper) you may not know
your password. We had to setup a Profile for you and created a
passsword for you. Contact
us: Fleadh@DetroitIMA.org if you need password
help. After you login, you may want to update your Profile, adding
a middle initial and changing your password to something you might
remember. Next year, you will not have to create the Profile again!
